BEMIDJI– One is dead after an officer involved shooting incident in Bemidji last night. According to a release from the Bemidji Police Department, an officer stopped a vehicle around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, with a Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputy arriving on the scene moments later.
During the stop, the officer confirmed a rear-seat passenger had a felony warrant. When asked to exit the vehicle, the passenger appeared to be in possession of a handgun. A struggle ensued for control of the weapon, and both the deputy and officer shot and struck the subject. Paramedics arrived on scene and confirmed the subject was dead.
The officer and deputy, who have not yet been named, have been placed on standard administrative leave. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will conduct an independent investigation into this case.
