BEMIDJI MN – Yesterday at Paul Bunyan Park, representatives from the Minnesota Wild, FOX Sports North, Wells Fargo and all participating teams were in attendance to announce that Bemidji will be the first host city to make Hockey Day Minnesota into a three-day celebration. The broadcast lineup features four live games at two separate locations, three in Bemidji and one in Saint Paul. The first city on the Mississippi will serve as the backdrop for three games played on an outdoor rink constructed on Lake Bemidji’s south shore. The outdoor games will feature the first Division I men’s hockey game on the Hockey Day rink when Bemidji State faces conference rival Michigan Tech University on Friday, Jan. 18. The three-day weekend will kick-off on Thursday, Jan. 17 with a girls’ high school hockey match-up between the Bemidji Lumberjacks and Woodbury Royals. FOX Sports North will televise four of the five match-ups on Saturday, Jan. 19, with the Lumberjacks boy’s hockey team taking on the Greenway Raiders at 4:30. Lumberjacks Boys hockey coach Eric Monsrud said he and his team look forward to next year. BSU head coach Tom Serratore says it will be great to share it with the fans.
BEMIDJI MN – Sanford Health has hired two new providers in Bemidji, Ariel Fernandez, and Megan Askelson. Fernandez specializes in hospital medicine and Askelson specializes in occupational medicine. Askelson will practice at the Sanford Bemidji Anne St. Clinic and Fernandez will be located at the Sanford Medical Center.
BEMIDJI MN – Police say one person was killed in a motorcycle crash in Bemidji late Thursday afternoon. Bemidji police report that officers responded to a crash around 5:37 P-M Thursday. Upon arrival, first responders said they discovered a motorcycle that appeared to have left the road and flipped. Officers say the motorcyclist died at the scene. The crash is currently under investigation by the Bemidji Police Department with the assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol. Also assisting on scene were the Bemidji Ambulance, Bemidji Fire Department and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
ST.PAUL MN – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is hosting a series of free waste pesticide collections available to eleven northwestern Minnesota counties. Residents from Beltrami, Cass, Clay, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau counties may attend any of the five collection sites in July. The program accepts unwanted, unusable agricultural and consumer-type pesticides including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and rodenticides. However, crop oils, adjuvants, pesticide rinsate, fertilizer, treated seed, contaminated soil, and empty pesticide containers will not be accepted. The collections are open to farmers, homeowners, commercial pesticide applicators, golf courses, lawn care companies, structural pest control operators, and other pesticide users. No pre-registration for the MDA events is required. Residents of other counties may attend but have opportunities for free disposal through their county Household Hazardous Waste facilities. Collection sites will accept up to 300 pounds of eligible product at no cost. The MDA requests that citizens call 651-201-6562 to provide advance notification if they wish to drop off more than 300 pounds of product.
