BEMIDJI MN – There will be a minor traffic impact this weekend. County Road 20 eastbound will be closed from Bemidji Rd to Country Club Rd on Saturday, June 16th. Westbound traffic will not be affected. Motorists are urged to use extra caution at the intersection, as traffic turns southbound on Country Club Rd to eastbound Birchmont Beach Rd. The closure is to allow safe travel for the Loop the Lake Bicycle Ride through the narrow and dangerous portion of Birchmont Beach Rd. Additionally, traffic along Bemidji Rd from Selma Drive to Birchmont Beach Rd should anticipate heavy bicycle traffic along the shoulder. In the City of Bemidji, motorists should also use caution at the intersections of South Shore Drive and 2nd Street at the entrance to Paul Bunyan Park. Recreational Deputies will be assisting with traffic control.
NEVIS TOWNSHIP – Two vehicles were involved in crash on Saturday in Nevis Township. The accident occurred at 4:47 p.m. near the intersection of 219th Avenue, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. A 2014 Honda Accord, driven by Steven Bolton, 66, of Park Rapids was stopped in the eastbound lane, waiting to turn onto County Road 80. When a Ford F150 driven by Charles Haussler, 66, of Fridley, also headed east, failed to stop. The collision caused the Honda to spin counter-clockwise, coming to rest in the westbound lane of Highway 34. The Ford went off the road to the right, rolled and came to a rest on its roof, pinning the driver. Both were wearing seatbelts. Bolton was uninjured. Haussler and his passenger were transported by North Memorial to St. Joseph’s Health in Park Rapids with non-life-threatening injuries. The Park Rapids Fire Department and Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene.
PINE RIVER MN – One person is still missing on Hay Lake near Pine River after two people were thrown from a boat Tuesday afternoon. Cass County sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:30 P-M Tuesday and found the man who had been operating the boat. He was taken to shore and treated for minor injuries. The search continues for another passenger. North Memorial Air Care, the Lakes Area Dive Team and D-N-R aircraft are assisting the search effort.
LAPRAIRIE TOWNSHIP – On May 29th The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary and fire near Roy Lake. The fire completely destroyed a large building along with a large amount of equipment. A Can-am UTV and a Polaris Ranger UTV were also stolen. At this time, the property owners are offering a $15,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the guilty parties.The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office is seeking anyone with any knowledge of these crimes.
